OUR STORY

Scott and I have always loved being on the water.  I grew up sailing and skiing in Michigan, and Scott spent much of his summers growing up on Falls Lake in Raleigh, or down at the beach.

We met during our summers in college while working as whitewater rafting guides in Colorado.  Guiding backpacking, rock climbing and whitewater rafting trips gave us the opportunity to create lifelong memories for hundreds of kids and families.

In 2014 Scott was introduced to the sport of rowing when his EMS partner on the ambulance invited him to a practice with High Point Rowing Club.  Scott was hooked and then convinced me to join. We quickly fell in love with the sport, and saw people of all ages having similar experiences to those we helped create during our summers in college.

Scott was inspired to create these fun and rewarding experiences in Greensboro, and asked if I would be apart of it.  Roughly two years later Scott and I were on a road trip purchasing rowing equipment, taking our USRowing level two coaching course, and visiting the best rowing programs in the country.  Thanks to google we found Community Rowing Inc. (CRI) in Boston. CRI is an organization that’s been around for over 30 years and offers many programs we hope to one day.

During our visit we were introduced to the Institute for Rowing Leadership, a one year coaching a leadership program offered at CRI.  The executive director asked if we would apply to the program, which we ultimately did. Four months later we uprooted life and moved to Boston for a year to immerse ourselves in the sport of rowing, and learn how the best coaches in the world do what they do. In June of 2018 we finished our program in Boston and moved back to Greensboro.  We now coach adult and youth rowing programs on Lake Higgins.
